Paul’s Story

My name is Paul Smorthit, and I’ve been in construction for 20 years — having started and completing my Carpentry apprenticeship in Essex.

 

I practised and learned my trade with an established company around East London, Hertfordshire and Essex, focusing on domestic loft conversions, extensions, and refurbishments.

 

A few years after completing my apprenticeship, I spent some time subcontracting in different sectors, including high-end residential, commercial builds and fit-outs, and shopfitting and worked alongside management to deliver outstanding projects.

 

Outside of construction, I’ve instinctively had a deep rooted connection with nature, people and communities and spent as many years identifying how to develop and nuture those eco systems. Permaculture and altrurism are practices I combine and try to explore within my construction business and the communities I operate.

 

Our family moved to Norwich in 2019, and with all the experience and knowledge I had gathered up to that point, I felt it was time to go all in with developing my own conscious construction business.

 

Since 2019, my team and I, have been designing and building projects across the NR2 postcode area — also known as “the golden triangle” of Norwich. I have developed wonderful relationships and a great reputation in the area for the knowledge and expertise we bring.

 

I’ll always be grateful to this community for opening its arms to us, particularly during the pandemic, which allowed our family to settle and thrive. The use of NR2 or ‘nrtwo’ is to show our gratitude and give thanks for our growth and security.
